I bought this flat iron in January 2009. It stopped working in January 2010 (right after the one year warranty expired, natch). For the high price, I would expect higher quality. It didn't seem to work any better than the cheap flat iron I had before this one either, and the cheaper brand lasted longer. The chi flat iron was a complete ripoff.

I bought a flat iron from Farouk for my daughter two weeks before Christmas. She began to use it on December 26th. January 27th the iron surged with heat, burned my daughter's hair (so that she had to cut the fried hair off) then quit working all together. Farouk said they only guarantee their products for 30 days and too bad! They would not work with me at all to replace, refund or repair the iron. I will NEVER purchase from them again!

When I received the pink CHI flat iron it looked fake because of the color pink and the box looked cheap. Within 2-3 days of use the pink paint started chipping off of the sides where the plates are, also the on/off writing is rubbing off on the inside.I don't think a real CHI would do this... When I looked online about signs of a fake CHI, 2 out of the 5 warnings my CHI had (it did not come with a pouch and the color of the writing "CHI" is red instead of pink). I don't know 100% if it is real or fake but I'm getting a replacement because of the paint chipping off. Next time I'm ordering from a different site all together.

So far this is the best flat iron i have used! I love the color and how smooth it looks and feels. Usually, other flat irons leave me hair kinda stringy looking and not really straight.
Im african american with very thick hair-not kinky really-but just very thick! I was having the hardest time trying to get my hair straight and I didnt want to opt for a chemical relaxer cause it just messes up your hair.
So as a last resort I decided to try this chi.
The price wasnt bad so I thought Id try it.
And Im so glad I did!
I got it in the mail pretty quickly-before the promised date.
And once it arrived I flat ironed my hair and I noticed a big difference!! My hair looked so much more straighter and smoother! It looks so polished looking! and the best part is that once I straightened it with a heat protectant my hair actually stayed straight!! Usually it curls right back up even before I make it outside! It would curl back up before I got finished with my whole head! lol! but with the chi...it got really straight and stayed straight! and thats hard to find for african american hair types without saloon visits!
Also another plus is that it gets hot instantly!! within like seconds of plugging it in its hot! and it gets very hot! so if your hair is very fine and cant take alot of heat i would recommend using the chi where you can set your temperature.
The only CON is that within the first use the chi title on the sides of the flat iron scratched off. :( so from looking at it one may not think its a chi but hey...I know its one and know how it works!!
Other than that its worth the price. Im even thinking of purchasing another one that may be even better like the turbo one.
